very well rounded sub Review by Martin
Price Value Quality I bought this sub to go with my stock factory shaker 500 system, and let me tell you one of these is more than enough bass. Good clean deep bass, no muddy crap that you can sometimes get with cheaper subs. overall very satisfied

Ridiculously accurate and loud bass! Review by Edwards
Price Value Quality I have this sub in a 2012 double cab tacoma and running on the alpine m500 and let me tell u, with the gain set at nominal which is about half way up, this thing bangs! Clean sounding bass too. Mounted it even just in a pre made fabed box (ported) 1.3 cubic feet. Sounds amazing. Trust me get this sub and u will make heads turn when u drive down the street and that's just with one! Also I would recommend just running the m500 , even though it says it can handle 1000, because trust me it supplies plenty of power and you get no distortion :) I had the type s previously but this sub like I said is amazing!

sounds great Review by Clark
Price Value Quality I bought this sub in march, I have it in a ported enclosure from R/T. I am powering it using an alpine PDX-M12 AMP. ITS POWER OUTPUT IS 1200w RMS @4 OHMS WHICH IS MORE THAN THE SPEAKER IS RATED FOR BUT A LITTLE MORE POWER IS GOING TO HURT ANYTHING. MY HEAD UNIT IS A ALPINE 138BT. I PREFER TO GO WITH THE SAME MANUFACTUER. mainly with the amp and the sub not the head unit. all that being said lets talk about the sub. it arrived quickly and was not damaged. its very heavy (size of the magnet). I had it installed by my local audio shop. when I pulled out of the parking lot I turned it up and I was pleasantly surprised by the power and the bass. I did not turn it all the way because you should break them in before you do bounce the house. some people say you don't need to break a sub in but if you see the movement of a cone that has been broke in and one that hasn't you will break yours in. now that it has broke in and I have blasted it. this thing is loud. like people come out of there apartments to see what the hell is going on loud. the sound quality is great. since i have a ported box the bass is more booming then tight but that is what i wanted. you could always get a none ported box and i am sure the bass would tighten up. i like this sub so much that i want another one, only problem is my jeep isn't big enough :(
now i am thinking about getting the type x. I would buy this sub again and again. just make sure you check your ohms 2 or 4 (Posted on 9/20/2015) -

Type R 12" D4 Review by Brian
Price Value Quality First of all, I have owned MANY different subwoofers. JBL, MTX, JL audio, Audiobahn, kicker, Alpine (lower end) and a few cheap models over the years. Is it the best sounding subwoofer I have owned...No. Is it the most expensive,..No. Am I happy with it...Yes
It is however the first subwoofer I have put it a ported box. I built the box to alpine specs for cubic feet and slot port dimensions. I think that it would sound better in a sealed box, but it might be some of my settings. I am waiting to install my new 4 channel to re-tune the system, maybe it will be better.
I am running a R F amp at 880 watts sustained power (no clipping) I would definitely not push it with any more that that. I have smelled the sub a couple times. If you plan on running 1000 watts at a 2 ohm load, get 2 of the D2's and wire them into a 2 ohm load, you will be happier and they will last longer. (Posted on 10/5/2014) -
One of the best subwoofer ever made!!!! Review by Jeff
Price Value Quality I love my car audio in any vehicle that I'm driving. I study, learn, experiment and install all parts of car audio. I have previously owned many different subs, cheap and known named brands. But this Alpine type r is the best quality, sound and price with no question! The lows are so clean! None of that fake tremble bass. Clean hard sounding bass the travels beyond any level I have ever seen. Even the mids come out perfect too. But make sure you hook it up to the right RMS wattage from your amp. Either make it 300 or just over like 320-350 watts. Nothing too cheap so make sure the amp is CEA compliant. Don't settle for a cheap box either, buy or make the best possible. I went with a sealed box but it depends on what type of music you listen to or sound you prefer. I bought and only installed one in my truck with below the RMS wattage and it pounds clean. I can't wait to buy another and put in the perfect amp for them. Now I make up excuses to drive just to listen to it...Lol

had one of these subs in my Blazer and liked it so much I added two more Review by David
Price Value Quality I already had one of these subs in my Blazer and liked it so much I added two more. In my opinion these subs are on level with others that cost twice as much. I ran an old MTX 81000d to one in a vented box built to specs. Spec sheet on the amp list it at 1,297 watts at 12.5 volts. I'm going back with three in a sealed and divided enclosure and believe I can safely feed everything my amp has to them and never fear of damage. They are quality, they have a clean look, and if you decide to add more later they are produced in such volume that even if the style changes you can still find your model easily unused as old stock.

I love, love, love it Review by Miller
Price Value Quality I matched this to a Hifonics Brutus amplifier, and Knu Konceptz wiring kit. Honestly, if my box was a little bigger, it would be even louder, but as is it hits so sharp, precise, and sounds so good. MSRP for this is over $250 after tax and shipping, keep that in mind. For a 12" Subwoofer at Dual 4-Ohm with the type of RMS rating that the SWR-12D4 can handle EASILY - you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. I got mine for just about $135 a while back from Caraudiogiants during a car audio special. Knowing what I know now, and how the hyper around Type-R's isn't just hype, I would GLADLY pay the full $250 if I'm building another car stereo.

12d4 :) Review by Moore
Price Value Quality I have two of these wired to 1ohm on a sound stream rub1.1600. Love these things!!!! Have them in a 3.2631 cube box, ported to 33hz walled off in my trunk firing towards the cabin. I would recommend these to anyone! Right now their getting 650 rms each. Still waiting for another month to turn the amp up to its full potential. Everyone that hears it asks if I have two more behind these in my trunk. So far they've loved the power. I learned quickly they dont like a clipped signal tho!! Highly recommended.
