DEH-80PRS Review by Young
Price Value Quality I set up this unit over the weekend. This unit is user friendly and with the auto EQ it is so easy to set up.I have a new top of the line Kenwood in my Jeep. I think I will replace it with the DEH-80PRS. I did find out that the R.C.A. on the back of the unit will make for a tight install. (Posted on 12/31/2015)

Poorly made components./ problem solved Review by Susan
Quality Price Value Love the product. All the functions were great until it stopped working. I heard a lot of people say the moving parts felt cheap. Well I have only had a year and now the MC control is shot. Never dropped never shocked only used for about eight months. Have had dozens of units and never had one break like this. Be careful and make sure you know who you're buying from. I am currently waiting to hear back but I'm sure it will be some crap about a factory repair. Totally defective. Stereo Gurus now is the time to see how you handle a problem.
I wanted to add an update to this rant because after i calmed down and called Stereo Gurus they were more than happy to do a one time exchange it was easy peasy. So I felt like i should do more on my end before i sent back. I just could not understand why it was just the one button that didnt work. Well I went back to the installer and we looked at everything one more time before we took it out and sent it back. Well low an behold the ipod connection was in the wrong jack. We swihced it and everything has been fine since. This is a great product and the problem I had was all on my side and not Pioneers. I am sttil a huge Pioneer fan. Hope this helps. Forgot to update and i didnt want anyone with the wrong Idea about the product. Go for it Im buying another one for my other car. (Posted on 11/13/2015) -
and I love it as much as I did on day one Review by Lopez
Value Quality Price I've now had this installed for over a year, and I love it as much as I did on day one. If you're looking for Bluetooth connectivity (I stream Spotify and use Google Maps as a navigation system between hands-free calls), high sound quality (the Auto-EQ is just too amazing), and incredible build quality out of your head unit, look no further. I also like knowing that if I later upgrade my speakers/amp/subwoofer, it would take a while before my head unit is the "weakest link" in the setup. This is a wonderful piece of equipment that constantly gets compliments from passengers. (Posted on 10/23/2015)

Very Good sound quality Review by Martinez
Price Value Quality The best thing here is the auto equalizer. With the Time Alignment and auto equalizer the DEH-80PRS tunes the best levels for each of 16 bands automatically for your speaker system setup. It adjusts the best high mid and low frequency in order to explore better your system and acquire the best experience that your speakers can provide. After that you can change each band trying to keep near to the initial setup.
Another highlight is the ASL. It's very useful when driving on highways where there's a constant engine and air noises. It hears the noise dynamically and adjust very well the each sound frequency to cancel external noise while also increase pretty good the volume on each with needs. It's doesn't work good while driving into the city where are too many different noises all the time, making the volumes to change every time and not so careful. (Posted on 10/6/2015) -
awesome Review by Paul
Price Value Quality I'm an (home) audiophile for 15years, this is by far the most impressive sounding deck I've listened to under $500.
When set up correctly this deck will sound great, if not then...
CRUCIAL TO the SETUP I found is to place the mic at a 45degree angle, facing front and roof of car with headrest REMOVED. I had it set up according to owners manual taping mic on headrest facing forward previously produced a very inaccurate calibration and imaging was off by a notch.
For accurate time alignment just use a measuring tape.
If you're measuring distance for the sub firing backwards in a station wagon like me measure the distance the sound travels and not the point where sub is located. (eg drivers chair -- rear window and rear window to sub.
This is because the rear firing sub reflects sound from the back of the car and hence a slight time delay.
There are cheaper decks and they sound great too with high quality DACs being more affordable today, but nothing compares when you have EQ and time calibration.
Illumination: I don't bother using the dimming function as the color calibrated changes significantly when dimmed.
For reference I drive an 05 impreza wagon, $200 kenwood 4 channel amp, rear channels not ext amplified, 6.5" a/d/s sub (not a great sub but I got it free): my setup is very modest as you can see but with the right setup sounds awesome. (Posted on 9/16/2015) -
Best single din head unit out there besides the 1K pioneer. Review by Sharon
Price Value Quality I bought this for its intended use...a 4 way setup with time delay and crossovers and blah blah blah.
This head unit just cannot be beat for the money. If you have never heard what a time aligned system sounds like be prepared to have your mind blown away.
You need to run it in the 3 way active though, so NO REAR SPEAKERS. just 2 tweeters, 2 mid drivers, and a sub. Just tune it all and forget about the kiddy head units with flashing lights and weird knobs and usb ports all over the fronts.
If I had to complain about something it is the build quality, it IS pretty cheap. However for this kinda cash you cant expect great sound and build quality. (Posted on 9/9/2015) -
By far the best radio I've ever owned Review by Hayden
Price Value Quality I love this radio. I've owned many Pioneer radios over the years and this one is by far the best. The styling isn't too flashy. It's simple and blends in nicely with a modern or classic car's interior. The infinitely adjustable display and button colors further ensure that it doesn't look out of place. The features are amazing. I've been able to fine tune the crossover settings to get the best response from each set of speakers. The rear USB inputs make it easy to leave my iPod connected all the time and have it always be out of sight and out of the way. I keep it in the glove box and ran a cable to the rear USB input. That way no one is ever tempted to smash out my window to grab my iPod. I also really like that they have brought back the sound attenuation feature. The volume level automatically adjusts up or down depending on the ambient noise. Driving with the windows down the sound comes up as you move faster and drops down when you come to a stop. No more blaring music when you're sitting stopped at a light or not being able to hear your tunes when cruising on the expressway with the windows down and it does it all automatically.
The only gripe I have is that there is no mute button and it takes a minimum of two button presses to pause the music. This is completely useless so I just turn the unit off when I want it quite quickly. A minor issue on an otherwise superb head unit. (Posted on 9/2/2015) -
Pioneer steps up their game with this Head Unit. Review by Aarron
Price Value Quality I've been a consumer of the Pioneer brand in home entertainment and car audio since the early 90s. While I've always been mostly satisfied with their products for reliability and value, I will say that I've seen the sound quality of their car audio lines wax and wane over the years. I upgraded from the DEH-7900BT which always seemed to fall short of my expectations versus previous experience with Pioneer head units. Enter the 80PRS: All I can say is that I'm very impressed with this head unit. The 80PRS comes with an extra microphone for Auto Time Alignment and Auto Equalization. While this is not new in the car audio world, the fact that it works as well as it does in this model is what is impressive. With minimal manual setting changes, I get wonderful clarity and spatial perception out of my Infinity Reference series 6.5s. My car audio now has an immersive quality it was lacking with the 7900BT and I'm very satisfied with the purchase of the 80PRS. The Time Alignment really sold this unit for me as I drive a compact car and space is at a premium. Time Alignment allows you to set the virtual distance of the speakers from the listener by delaying the sound that comes out of the speakers. This allows you to create a listening space that sounds larger than your vehicle. Combine this with Pioneer's automatic adjustment and you can really get some impressive sound in a restrictive space with minimal guess work. The wonderful part is that I can fine tune every aspect of the sound as all the settings are exposed from the interface. With sound dampening (Damplifier Pro), a 12 inch Infinity Reference subwoofer powered by a 300 watt Infinity Reference amp, and all four 6.5 inch full range speakers being Infinity Reference as well, I can say that I've found my sound for a while. For only those who Love Amazing Sound… Review by Donald
Price Value Quality If you bought another deck, I'm sorry to say you're missing out on the most high fidelity, in-car listening experience you've ever experienced.
To start, the 80prs outputs a 5v signal to your amps. This means that any outer noise introduction into the system (The Hummmmm or buzzzzz), is simply rejected. It also means your amps can "relax" a bit, as your gains will be lowered.
It features three Burr Brown DACs. One for the high, mid and low frequencies. This allows your MP3s, WAVs, etc., to sound wonderful.
On to the user interface... I personally use 64gb SD cards, class 10. This deck has no problem reading the cards quickly. And searching for songs is also easy, if they're organized in the appropriate folders. The screen is clear and easily visible, but not overly bright.
Toggling through other menu items, after you've "played" with it for an hour, and you will, makes you realize how simple this deck is to operate.
Now let's get to the auto EQ and T/A. You may read varied reviews about these features. However, I've been installing systems in all of my cars since I was 18 (32 now), and I'm not one to show too much "excitement" in my words, however, the auto EQ allows my Image Dynamics XS65 component speakers in my front and rear doors (Fully sound deadened and also acoustic material behind each midrange to bounce rear sound away from the speakers and not back into the cones.) to blend perfectly with my JL Audio 12w6 12" subwoofer (Trunk also fully sound deadened.)
The T/A microphone is hung over my driver seat headrest, pointed forward, once auto EQ and T/A has finished running (About 5 minutes.), the center stage is now directly in front of me, on my dash, as if the singer is literally sitting in front of me, persoanally singing for me. The sound the 80prs creates in my car (Clarity, depth, dynamics.) is by far the most impressive sound I've ever heard in any car, ever. It is simply (Posted on 7/13/2015)
